I love these films, so I say from the heart that their stakes are never all that high, simply because these characters are very difficult to kill, both in-universe and from a marketing standpoint. If you want to nitpick the MCU, examining the invincibility of its characters might be a good place to start. It is also where the MCU lost its first superhero, Wanda's brother Pietro, a plot point that has new relevance with the emergence of Evan Peters' alternate universe version of the character in WandaVision. Their relationship would gain ground later, but this is where we saw his birth and learned of her ability to warp reality. And yet, this is where both Wanda Maximoff and Vision get their start. And Avengers: Infinity War kind of swept aside the long-term consequences of the Sokovia Accords, which originated in this film. Thor's search for the Infinity Stones did not add up to much. Ultron did not stick around as a villain. There was a time where the film felt nearly inconsequential. This latter explanation doesn't explain why Pietro's appearance is different, however, making it an unlikely scenario.( Welcome to Great Moments in MCU History, where we fondly recall great little bits that made us fall in love with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.)Īs WandaVision ramps up to its conclusion, Avengers: Age of Ultron 's importance to the current status of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has found a surprising boost. This would involve some magical abilities to preserve Pietro's corpse for several years and transform him into Evan Peters' Quicksilver, and it would explain why Wanda said she had nothing to do with Pietro's return in WandaVision episode 5. The perpetrator could be Mephisto, Agatha Harkness, or a time-traveling/multiversal being with his sights set on Wanda, using her dead brother as another manipulation tool. Wanda never addressed her brother after his death before WandaVision, but it's likely that she gave Pietro a last goodbye before she officially joined the Avengers.Īlthough less likely, the final possibility would tie directly into Pietro's return in WandaVision: His body could have been fetched by a magical entity who knew about Wanda's potential. Hawkeye would definitely help with this after his close relationship with both Maximoff twins, even more so considering that Pietro's sacrifice was the reason he could reunite with his newborn son, whom he named Pietro in honor of the fallen Avenger. may have simply ensured Pietro's body would get a proper burial to help Wanda get closure. The second possibility is the most likely: S.H.I.E.L.D. right after the Battle of New York with the intention of awakening special abilities on the Sokovians. Any of these organizations could have experimented on Pietro's body without anybody raising an eyebrow, which is exactly what they tried to do with Vision's body before Wanda took him to Westview. was interested in the Tesseract's potential for weapon manufacturing long before the Avengers first assembled, and HYDRA received the Mind Stone directly from S.H.I.E.L.D. claimed Quicksilver's body to study Pietro's powers and the effects the Mind Stone has on human beings. After all, S.H.I.E.L.D. The first one makes sense after what WandaVision has revealed about S.W.O.R.D. The original Quicksilver's body must have met one of three different fates. Related: Quicksilver's Return In WandaVision Can Introduce The MCU's New Inhumans Peters, played the character in Fox's X-Men movies, making this case is a special one. This Pietro is the only Westview resident whose physical appearance changed after getting unwillingly transformed into one of Wanda's new neighbors. Several years later, Evan Peters' Quicksilver has appeared in WandaVision as a "recast" Pietro. helicarrier as the Avengers assessed the aftermath of their battle against Ultron and the destruction of Sokovia. Then, Pietro's body was last seen inside a S.H.I.E.L.D. Shortly after Pietro and Wanda Maximoff betrayed Ultron and aligned themselves with the Avengers, Pietro was gunned down while trying to save Hawkeye and a kid from a hail of bullets.
